We recently had the opportunity to dine at the famous churrascaria chain Texas de Brazil’s New York City location at 1011 3rd Ave. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this style of cuisine, a churrascaria is a Brazilian Steakhouse where a large number of different meats are prepared in a charcoal based barbeque style that originated in southern Brazil.
Once seated, each guest is issued a small disc that is green on one side and red on the other. While the disc is flipped to the green side, prepare to be swarmed by a troop of carvers generously serving various cuts of seasoned beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and Brazilian sausage, all accompanied by traditional side items and house-baked Brazilian cheese bread. Among our favorite menu items is the bacon wrapped chicken, which due to the rendering of the bacon fat into the chicken during the cooking process, was absolutely tender and delicious beyond belief. Similarly bacon wrapped portions of fillet mignon were equally tasty and quickly devoured. Pork fans will absolutely love the Brazilian sausage and pork ribs. Other favorites of ours included the flank steak, Brazilian Picanha, and the garlic Picanha.
With sixteen different types of meats and cuts, the restaurant is truly a carnivore’s delight. Vegetarians need not feel left out, as the extensive salad bar features over 50 different items all fresh and delicious. Traditional Brazilian side dishes garlic mashed potatoes, sweet fried bananas, and Brazilian cheese bread accompany every meal and are appetizing as well. Just when guests feel that they are about to explode from eating all of the savory dishes, they can flip their disc to red and the carvers will cease offering their items. This is advisable as you will want to take a break to enjoy one of the wonderful cocktail creations, or perhaps give your stomach a chance to process the gastronomical wonders so that you can eventually order one of the delectable desserts. The dessert menu features 11 different items including Brazilian Cheesecake, Crème Brûlée, Brazilian Flan, Key Lime Pie, and other similarly decadent items.
If you love churrascaria or even if you have never been, Texas de Brazil is a MUST DINE option, just remember to bring a big appetite. For more information visit: http://www.texasdebrazil.com/
